Here’s a close-up of the bottom bracket weld. Notice the minimal amount of weld material (call it solder or filler) there, and the great looking beads. Additional material at the weld does not make for a stronger junction. Typically welders refer to a weld with little filler as a “small weld.” This is one of the reasons I went with Carl Strong – his reputation for perfect welds. One thing that I might be just a little bit disappointed in is that Carl doesn’t have a cool stamp for the bottom bracket. You’ll notice on some older Italian bikes that the outsides of the bottom bracket get stamped (almost like branding a cow – bad analogy) with a logo or initials.
Here’s a close-up of the head tube weld. Again, it’s perfect and you can see a close up of the job he did taking off some material off the front of the head tube.
